Free things from the City

Austin is so Green- its GIVING away things to folks, just so it can encourage others to be green too.

Here are some of the coolest give-aways:

Programable Thermostats-free and installed for free. You call a number, they come out. You don't even have to wait on hold for 10 hours like Time Warner forces you to do. You can call them now: 1-877-549-2774

Mulch- Crushed Glass mulch. If you haven't seen this stuff yet in cutting edge landscaping, you're about to be surprised. This completely recycled glass from the city can be used around plants and trees. No sharp edges on this glass, and it looks great in xeriscapes. Don't use it for walkways because it doesn't compress, and you'll sink in every time. You've got to get it into your own vehicle to take it for Free. Call City of Austin Landfill: 512-243-3325

Toilets- Word is that when you order some of the high efficiency toilets from the city and get a rebate, some of them are actually FREE. Dude, free toilet? And its not even used. SCORE!
You can replace up to three toilets per house, but they should be pre-1996 toilets. You can use the old ones in your yard as planters. Check out the details at
